Kingwood Patrol Division Sgt. Cowan observed lewd graffiti on park equipment at Dylan Duncan Skate Park this past Saturday. He felt the obscene portions needed to be covered up immediately to protect a community space frequented by many families. He went to nearby Alspaugh’s Hardware Store to buy two cans of paint with his own money, but when the store heard what he was doing, Alspaugh’s graciously donated the paint. Sgt. Cowan returned to the park, paint in hand, and found Officer Ewing there talking with the kids. The teens, interested in helping, volunteered to work with the officers to paint the graffiti. Both the teens and officers immediately got to work removing the unwanted graffiti and it was finished in half the time. This was a great opportunity for the community and officers to come together to make the park better for everyone. After painting, one skater asked if he could jump over an officer with his skateboard and Sgt. Cowan volunteered without a second thought. The jump was successful and the officers and teens left the park not only doing their good deed for the day, but with new friends. It's rumored Sgt. Cowan will be returning to the skate park next week for his first skateboarding lesson. #relationalpolicing
