The Broken String Band

Hailing from the Classic City, The Broken String Band is re-defining what it means to play folk music. From its beginnings with founding vocalist Taylor Thompson and songwriter/banjo player Sean Stephansen, the aptly named band has been breaking strings with the intensity and excitement of their performances from Nashville to Atlanta since 2015. The later additions of Laura Camacho (stand-up bass) and John Phillips (drums/multi- instrumentalist) from the Athens Tango Project created an eclectic group of musicians that exemplifies The Broken String Band’s sound: diverse, unique and dynamic. With a live performance that combines alluring, hard-hitting lyrics and harmonies with thrashing banjo, tango-driven bass lines, and the occasional accordion or flute, The Broken String Band encapsulates the feel-good vibe of acoustic jamming with a dash of classical culture thrown in for good measure. Though the group takes on the appearance of a traditional folk act as they take the stage, ample excitement lies in their unexpectedly electrifying style of performing that could feel at home at any rock and roll show. While their debut EP, Prologue: Somebody’s Daughter, demonstrates their tamer, refined style of recording, their evocative performances provide a dramatic range of emotions that will leave you head-banging, smiling, and tearing up.
