Ricarlo Flanagan, ‘Shameless’ actor and ‘Last Comic Standing’ comedian, dies

Actor, rapper and comedian Ricarlo Flanagan died Saturday, weeks after he announced that he had contracted COVID-19, according to multiple reports.

Flanagan’s representative, Stu Golfman, confirmed to Variety that Flanagan died of complications related to COVID-19.

“Sadly, this pandemic has taken the life of an extremely talented performer and even nicer human being,” Golfman said. “Ricarlo will be greatly missed.”

Flanagan said in a tweet posted Oct. 1 that he had been diagnosed with COVID-19.

“This covid is no joke,” he wrote. “I don’t wish this on anybody.”

Flanagan was born in Cleveland and began pursuing comedy after he graduated from college in 2007, USA Today reported. In 2013, he released his debut comedy album, “Man Law,” according to Variety. Two years later, he competed in the ninth season of “Last Comic Standing” and made it to the semi-finals.

Flanagan went on to hold recurring roles as Davey on Showtime’s “Shameless” and as a security guard the Disney XD comedy “Walk the Prank.” He also made cameo appearances on shows including Fox’s “The Mick” and HBO’s “Insecure.”

More recently, Flanagan filmed an episode of Peacock’s upcoming comedy series “Bust Down” and acted in his first official film role in the thriller “Emily the Criminal,” starring Aubrey Plaza, according to Variety and E! Online.

Flanagan was also a rapper and performed under the name Father Flanagn. He released his first album, “Death of Davinchi,” in 2010.
