Recall alert: Ford recalling more than 87,000 F-series pickups over windshield defect

DEARBORN, Mich. — Ford Motor Co. issued a recall Monday for 87,350 F-series trucks the company said could lose their windshields in a crash because they are “inadequately bonded to the vehicle body structure.”

The Dearborn, Michigan-based automaker said it is unaware of any incidents or issues related to the issue to date, Fox Business reported.

According to the Detroit Free Press, the recall affects 79,017 U.S. vehicles, 6,986 in Canada and 1,347 in Mexico, including 2021 Ford F-150 vehicles built at the Dearborn Truck Plant from Oct. 27 to Feb. 3. Also affected are 2020-21 Ford Super Duty vehicles built at the Kentucky Truck Plant from Oct. 13, to Jan. 23.

Separately, Ford is recalling nearly 10,000 2020 Ford F-Series Super Duty trucks – built at the Kentucky Truck Plant from May 13, 2019 to Sept. 19, 2020 – to replace labels printed with incorrect payload and reserve accessory capacity figures along with incorrect truck camper loading documentation, Fox Business reported.

The company said it will notify F-150 owners the week of April 6 with plans to remove and reinstall the windshield using standard service procedures.

Meanwhile, the issue does not affect the hybrid F-150s, Ford confirmed to the Free Press. The Ford F-150 Hybrid truck with Pro Power Onboard made global headlines after some victims of winter storms in Texas used the vehicle to power their homes.
