Cook County State’s Attorney Kim Foxx announced Monday her decision to drop the charges against Kelly, 56. According to The Associated Press, the decision came a day before a court hearing related to state charges against the musician.

Those charges included the sexual abuse of four people, three of whom were minors.

Kelly was indicted in Cook County in 2019. Federal juries in Chicago and New York convicted him of crimes including child pornography, enticement, racketeering, sex trafficking and allegations that he reportedly victimized women and girls, according to the AP.

Kelly is serving a 30-year prison sentence for the New York case and is expected to be sentenced in the Chicago federal case on Feb. 23, according to the AP.

In New York, Kelly won’t eligible for release until he is about 80 years of age, according to the AP.

There is still a sexual-misconduct case pending in Hennepin County, Minnesota, where Kelly is facing solicitation charges. According to the AP, that case had been put on hold as the federal cases proceeded.

Minnesota prosecutors have not yet said if they plan to drop the charges like Foxx has in Chicago.
