Jaycee Gutierrez, 9, of Lubbock, was merely following the Girl Scouts motto, “Be Prepared,” when she and her father created a plexiglass shield to protect herself and customers as she sold cookies at her booth, KCBD reported.

According to the 1947 “Girl Scout Handbook,” a Girl Scout “is ready to help out wherever she is needed. Willingness to serve is not enough; you must know how to do the job well, even in an emergency.”

It was a simple decision for Gutierrez, who set up her booth near a store in Lubbock on Saturday. Nothing was going to stop her from selling her allotment of Thin Mints, Samoas, Do-si-dos and Lemon-Ups.

“It keeps us safe from getting COVID-19,” Gutierrez told KCBD.

Gutierrez and her father created the homemade shield at their home, decorating it with remote-controlled lights, the television station reported.

“It’s really fun and we get to do a lot of fun stuff,” Gutierrez said after creating the booth with her father.

Gutierrez hopes to sell more than 1,500 boxes. She will be outside a supermarket in Lubbock from noon to 2 p.m. on Sunday.

Be prepared for this scout to meet her goal.
