Coronavirus researchers win $1 million lottery prize

A group of 14 Canadian scientists doing coronavirus research won a $1 million lottery prize.

The Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation said the group, which is involved in coronavirus research at a university, has played the MaxMillions game together for four years. They learned about their prize in February, according to a Friday news release, CTV News reported.

“I had a text and a call from my boss and was worried something was wrong at work,” Rahul Vohra, one of the group winners, said in a statement. “Then the call came in from our group leader, John (Maione), and then the other members. We didn’t get a lot of work accomplished that day.”

Each member of the group has different plans for the money.

“There are 14 families that are going to feel the benefit of this windfall,” Vohra said. “I expect some will invest, some will pay for their kids’ education and some may even buy new cars. Regardless, we all feel very good and blessed to have this experience.”
