UGA president updates staff bonuses

“We would like to express our gratitude to all of the members of our campus community for your efforts and resilience over the last year”

University of Georgia president Jere Morehead says the University System of Georgia will provide $1,000 bonuses to campus staffers who are earning less than $80,000 in annual salary. This mirrors a similar bonus package the state rolled out last week.

From UGA president Jere Morehead...

As we informed you last week, the University System of Georgia has decided to mirror the State of Georgia’s plan to provide a one-time bonus of $1,000 to all full-time employees earning less than $80,000 per year. We have now received additional instructions from the USG on how those bonuses will be administered.

The $1,000 one-time supplement will be paid to all employees who:

  • Are regular, full-time benefits-eligible;
  • Have a standard work-week of 30 hours or more;
  • Are active as of February 15, 2021 and still employed through March 22, 2021; and,
  • Earn salaries below $80,000.

In order to mirror the state plan, part-time and temporary employees will not be eligible for this one-time supplemental payment. These payments will not be eligible for retirement contributions and will be subject to FICA and required income tax withholdings.

The USG Shared Services Center plans to include the supplemental payment for eligible employees in the March 26th paycheck for non-exempt (hourly, paid every two weeks) employees and March 31st for exempt employees (paid monthly). UGA will be covering the cost of these supplements from central institutional funds and therefore, budgets at the unit level will not be impacted.

USG SSC will be providing a list of eligible employees to UGA for verification over the coming weeks. If necessary, UGA Human Resources may need to work with department leadership on this verification.

If you have any questions, please contact UGA HR at hrweb@uga.edu.

We would like to express our gratitude to all of the members of our campus community for your efforts and resilience over the last year. We are grateful that the USG is providing us with the opportunity to reward many of our dedicated faculty and staff.
