State opens NE Ga coronavirus vaccination site

The state’s four new mass coronavirus vaccination sites—one of them in Habersham County—opened Monday. The Habersham County site is at the County Fairgrounds in Clarkesville. The others are in Albany, Macon, and Hapeville.

Gov. Brian Kemp said Monday they’ve administered 1.75 million doses of the vaccine in Georgia.

“There have now been 1.75 million doses of the COVID-19 vaccine administered here in Georgia. That accounts for 89% of our supply,” Kemp said.

When those additional doses come, many will be administered inside the Delta Air Museum as a supplement to the drive-thru vaccinations.

“The most important thing is to make sure you register and have an appointment and bring your QR code with you to speed up the process considerably,” Russo said.

On Sunday, Gov. Brian Kemp was in Albany visiting the Dougherty County vaccine location.

“We will continue to focus on how we can prevent future deaths and that’s by getting as many shots into the arms of seniors as we possibly can as quickly,” Kemp said.

Kemp encouraged people to register with the state’s new vaccine portal, myvaccinegeorgia.com or call 1-844-275-3428, even if you aren’t eligible yet.

Vaccines are currently open to people eligible in Phase 1A, which includes people over 65 and their caregivers, health care workers, law enforcement and EMS personnel and residents and staff of long-term care facilities.

Kemp said they’re staying flexible based on the area that has the most need, but he said he plans to open more mass vaccinations sites as soon as the state gets more supply.
