DeVon Walker had a week to see what life was like away from the Florida basketball program and he did not like it. After receiving his release to transfer last week, Walker decided today he will stay with the Gators.
“Florida is such a great place, and the more I thought about it, I just realized this is where I want to be,” he said in a statement released by the program. “The coaching staff has helped me get better on and off the court over the past year, and I really enjoy being around my teammates, so I’m excited to refocus on my future here in Gainesville.”
Walker played in 25 of 37 games for Florida last year and averaged four minutes per game. He totaled 20 points and 17 rebounds.
With the addition of incoming Rutgers transfer Eli Carter, the Gators now stand at 12 scholarship players for the 2013-14 season. They have room to add one more, or can grant a scholarship to one of their walk-ons.
